Materials:

Bulky weight or doubled worsted weight yarn in an animal fiber.

Try using a smaller size hook than the label calls for to make a thicker fabric. Gauge isn’t important because we have all sizes of bodies that need to be kept warm. Suggested hook size J.

Abbreviations:

Hdc – Half double crochet

Hdc decrease – yarn over, insert hook in first stitch and pull up a loop, yarn over, insert hook in next stitch and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through all 5 remaining loops on the hook.

BODY
Chain 67  

Row 1: Hdc in the 3rd chain from the hook and in each chain across, chain 2, turn. 65 Hdc

Row 2 and 3: Hdc in each Hdc across, chain 2, turn. 65 Hdc

Rows 4: 1 Hdc, chain 1, skip 1 Hdc, 63 Hdc, chain 2, turn. This is a buttonhole row.

Row 5: 63 Hdc, Hdc in chain 1, 1 Hdc, chain 2, turn.

Row 6 thru 9: 65 Hdc, chain 2, turn.

Row 10: 1 Hdc, chain 1, skip 1 Hdc, 63 Hdc, chain 2, turn. This is a buttonhole row

Row 11: 63 Hdc, Hdc in chain 1, 1 Hdc, chain 2, turn

Row 12 thru 15: 65 Hdc, chain 2, turn.

Row 16: 1 Hdc, chain 1, skip 1 Hdc, 63 Hdc, chain 2, turn. This is a buttonhole row

Row 17: 63 Hdc, Hdc in chain 1, 1 Hdc, chain 2, turn.

Row 18 and 19: 65 Hdc, chain 2, turn

 

RIGHT FRONT

Continue with the yarn from the body.

Row 1: 13 Hdc, chain 2, turn.

Row 2: 11 Hdc, Hdc decrease, chain 2, turn.

Rows 3 thru 13: Continue Hdc in each Hdc and do a decrease row every other row, this forms a slanted neck edge.

Rows 14: 6 Hdc, chain 2, turn.

Row 15: 6 Hdc

Finish off and leave about a 12 inch tail to sew up the shoulder seam.

 

LEFT FRONT

Same as the right front except reverse the shaping for the neck edge.

 

BACK

Count over 8 Hdc from the bottom of right front. Connect yarn.

Row 1: Chain 2, Hdc in the same space as you connected. Do 23 Hdc total, chain 2, turn.

Rows 2 thru 14: 23 Hdc, chain 2, turn.

Row 15: 23 Hdc, fasten off yarn.

Sew or slip stitch the shoulder seams together.
