Warm Woolies Frequently Asked Questions
- Does wool yarn need to be "superwash"?
No. The children we knit for typically do not have access to washing machines. Regular wool yarn is fine. - I've sent pieces in, how can I be sure you received them?
See the Donation Acknowledgement policy on the Home Page. - Acrylic Yarn Questions
- Can I knit with acrylic yarn?
The only item we accept in acrylic yarn is baby blankets - and we need as many as you can knit. For clothing, we accept items knit in wool or majority-wool blends. - Do you accept donations of acrylic yarn?
No. We suggest you donate your acrylic yarn to a charity knitting group at a hospital or nursing home in your area.

- Crochet Questions
- Can I crochet pieces and send them to you?
Yes. Each year, we receive numerous lovely crocheted pieces and happily deliver them. - Does Warm Woolies have crochet patterns?
Yes! We have new patterns for crocheted vests and sweaters. Please look on the free patterns page. - Can I crochet a baby blanket?
Yes! We prefer large blankets -- about 40" on the short side -- so that babies can be well wrapped. Feel free to use any non-lacy stitch. Please avoid white and very light colors.
- Can I crochet pieces and send them to you?
- I'm not in Denver: can I still participate?
See the Yarn for Volunteers policy on the Home Page. - I'm not in Denver: will Warm Woolies still provide me with yarn?
See the Yarn for Volunteers policy on the Home Page. - Deadlines: do I have to have my pieces finished by a certain date?
No. Warm Woolies delivers close to two hundred pieces each week and operates on an ongoing basis. - Can I specify where I want the pieces I knit to go?
Yes. Include a note inside the box when you send your pieces to Warm Woolies and we'll make sure they get there. - What items and sizes do you need most?
We need sweaters, vests, and socks the most. Children wear them inside and out for more than half the year. We always need larger sizes – we knit for children up to 16 years old. Please do NOT send scarves or any acrylic clothing items. - Your posted sock pattern makes such thick socks; do they fit inside of shoes?
Most of the children we knit for either have no shoes at all or wear the socks inside of plastic sandals. These thick socks were designed for their feet.
