WARM WOOLIES HAT

Size 10 ½ needles, bulky or double worsted yarn.
Gauge should be about 3 stitches per inch.

 

1. Cast on 55 stitches and join.

2. Work 8 rounds in garter stitch.

3. In next round, increase 5 stitches by knitting into the front and the back of each 11th stitch, ending with 60 stitches.

4. Continue in stockinet stitch (knitting every row) until piece measures 7 ½ inches.

5. Next round: (knit 3, knit 2 together) ending with 48 stitches.

6. Next round: (knit 2, knit 2 together) ending with 36 stitches.

7. Next round: (knit 1, knit 2 together) ending with 24 stitches.

8. Next 3 rounds: (knit 2 together) ending with 12, 6, and 3 stitches respectively.

9. Finish either by cutting yarn and sewing through remaining stitches, or by making an I-cord.
