Previous Years' Stories

2007 was a year characterized by acts of tremendous generosity. It began in the spring when two women in California, sisters who had owned a yarn shop, donated knitting supplies to Warm Woolies that will sustain our operations for years to come. We still have not found words to capture the awe we feel and the impact their gift will have on thousands upon thousands of children.

During the summer, Warm Woolies received hundreds of hats knit during the Charmed Knits Knit Along, based on a pattern from Alison Hansel's book, Charmed Knits - Projects for Fans of Harry Potter. “House Hats” came pouring in from as far away as Finland and were delivered to children as far away as Mongolia.

We expanded our trip to the Rosebud Reservation in October, filling two vans with knit pieces and other humanitarian aid. In November, we got organized! A group of professional organizers from NAPO Colorado - National Association of Professional Organizers whipped our workspace into prime efficiency. Over 300 volunteers knit for Warm Woolies in 2007. We finished the year at 5,724 pieces.

Our goal for 2008 is 7,000 pieces. We’ll be running contests with fun prizes throughout the year to keep your needles flying. Be sure to visit the “Special Projects” page for all of the details.
