WARM WOOLIES October Vest–of–month

Warm Woolies Super Simple Small SWEATER© (size 2-4)

Bulky or doubled worsted weight yarn.
Size #10 ½ to #13 circular needles, at least 29” long.  (Your needle size will depend on your yarn.  Gauge is not important; you simply want the knit fabric to be somewhat loose and stretchy.)

  1. Starting at sleeve edge, cast on 34 stitches.
  2. Work back and forth in garter stitch (knit every row) for 6 ½ inches.
  3. Increase Rows: At the beginning of each of the next 2 rows, cast on 25 stitches and knit to end. (You should have 84 stitches on your needle at the end of your second increase row.)
  4. Work 4 ½ more inches in garter stitch.
  5. Neck Opening: Knit 40 stitches, join new yarn and bind off the next 4 stitches, knit remaining 40 stitches.
  6. Working both sides at once, work for 5 more inches.
  7. Shoulder Join: Knit all stitches to neck opening, cast on 4 stitches, join as one piece again and knit to end of the row.  (You should have 84 stitches on your needle again.)
  8. Work 4 ½ inches in garter stitch on all 84 stitches.
  9. Second Sleeve:  Bind off 25 stitches at the beginning of each of the next two rows and knit to end.  (You should have 34 stitches on your needle.)
  10.  Work remaining stitches for 6 ½ inches to correspond to first sleeve.  Bind off loosely.
  11. 11. Fold sweater in half so that garter ridges run VERTICALLY (up and down).  Sew underarms and along sides.  Leave long tails and weave in securely.
